MANATEE – Hundreds gathered for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Palmetto Saturday.

The parade started along 17th Street east and circled the block ending up at the Lincoln Memorial Academy. Middle and high school ROTC students from several schools marched in the parade – handing out candy and bead to children.

“I think just need to remain open minded and know that we’re all in this world for the same cause,” says Tequilla Jones.  “One should respect Dr. King and thank him for making black and white live together in peace,” adds in her young son.

City officials and other prominent members of Manatee County rode on floats commemorating the civil rights leader. After the parade a festival was hosted at Lincoln Park with carnival games and rides.
