Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ jersey sells for $9.3M

MARADONA

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (SNN-TV) – The shirt Diego Maradona wore against England at the 1986 World Cup — has sold for almost $9.3M in an online auction, smashing the record for an item of sports memorabilia.

The blue jersey was sold to an anonymous buyer according to Sotheby’s.

It had previously been in the possession of former England midfielder Steve Hodge, who exchanged shirts with Maradona after Argentina’s 2-1 quarterfinal victory.

During the game, Hodge unintentionally flicked the ball into the air for Maradona to score the infamous “Hand of God” goal.

A few minutes later, Maradona scored the so-called “Goal of the Century.”
