TAMPA – While Republicans held a Candidates Rally in Sarasota, Democrats had their own rally at their Leadership Blue gala at the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street.
Among the guests were Democratic candidates for governor, Congressman Charlie Crist and Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, and Senate candidate Val Demings.
Demings made her case against her opponent, Senator Marco Rubio, pointing to his having one of the worst attendance records in the Senate, a charge that even former president Donald Trump made against him in 2016.
Crist said DeSantis was trying to take away Floridians’ rights and freedoms. Fried called Desantis a “wannabe dictator” and said she’s the only 100% pro-choice Democrat running.
According to the Herald Tribune, Democrats talked about the property insurance crisis in Florida, tying it to Republican rule in Florida since the late 1990s, and made the argument that Republicans want Floridians to believe gay marriage and Disney World are a bigger threat to their kids than an AR-15.
