FLORIDA – Democrats are attacking Senator Marco Rubio over abortion rights.
Rubio is running for reelection this November.
The Herald-Tribune reports Democrats are pledging to make abortion rights the law of the land if they maintain control of Congress and expand their Senate majority.
When pressed in a CBS Miami interview, Rubio said he would favor a complete ban on abortion with no exceptions if a state decided on it but would only vote for a bill nationally with exceptions for incest, rape, and human trafficking.
Democratic Senate candidate Val Demings says his position is “disgraceful.” She says a woman should be able to consult with her doctor on the point of viability.
Demings‘ supporters say his position would lead to police surveillance of teenage girls and adult women, citing Nebraska where police used Facebook messages to charge a mom for helping her teenage daughter abort a pregnancy.
