BUFFALO, NY (SNN-TV) – Good news for the Buffalo Bills, and football fans everywhere, as doctors clear Damar Hamlin to resume his NFL career. The news comes three and a half months after Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest in a January 2nd Monday Night Football game against the Bengals.

Bills GM Brandon Beane said Hamlin visited with doctors since returning to Buffalo and they all agree that he can return to full football activities. Hamlin shared today that doctors concluded commotio cordis, “an extremely rare consequence of blunt force trauma to the heart that happens at exactly the wrong time in the heart rhythm, causing the heart to stop beating effective,” caused him to suffer cardiac arrest.

Hamlin spoke to where his mind is at while participating in voluntary off-season workouts this week.

“I’m day to day with it, you know, I’m just taking it one day at a time. That’s where I’m at in this process. Anytime I try to think too forward, you know if it gets cloudy, so I’m riding the roller coaster of emotions. I’m taking it one day at a time and I’m trusting God, you know, I’m walking by faith.” – Damar Hamlin

In the last couple of months, Hamlin has been busy collecting accolades, including the NFLPA’s highest honor, the Alan Page Community Award for his charity work. Hamlin’s ‘Chasing M’s’ foundation raised more than $9M in the days after his hospitalization.
