COVID case at Florida Studio Theatre, two summer camps cancelled

SARASOTA (WSNN) – It looks like the curtain will close again at Florida Studio Theatre.

FST was forced to shut down two of its summer camp classes this week after one of the young participants tested positive for COVID-19.

More than two dozen 7-to-12-year-olds were participating in the Children’s Performing Arts Camp and The Puzzle Project, and there was some crossover between the two sessions. All the campers involved are not eligible for the available vaccines.

“It’s heartbreaking cause it’s kids,” FST’s managing director, Rebecca Hopkins said. “They’re unvaccinated of no fault of their own, they can’t be yet. With the children’s program, you know have a higher risk of having to do a cancellation.”

Since summer is almost over, FST staff will not be rescheduling these camps.
