Caleb Ziegelbauer to throw first pitch at Monday’s Red Sox game

CALEB ZIEGELBAUER

FORT MYERS (SNN-TV) – The 13-year-old from Port Charlotte, who nearly died after getting a rare brain-eating amoeba last summer, is being recognized by the Red Sox this Monday in Ft. Myers.

Caleb Ziegelbauer will throw out the first pitch at the Red Sox spring training game on Monday the 20th at JetBlue Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fighting the amoeba, Caleb was on a ventilator and suffered seizures while in the pediatric intensive care unit of Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. After more than 50 days there, Caleb was transferred back in February to a rehabilitation hospital in Chicago.

Caleb has been having 6 hours of intense therapy 5 days a week, and continues his herculean fight.
