Buster Posey to announce retirement on Thursday

BUSTER POSEY

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (SNN-TV) – Former Florida State Seminole and Golden Spikes Award Winner, Buster Posey is reportedly set to announce his retirement on Thursday.

Posey has played his entire 12-year career in San Francisco, helping the team win three World Series titles, in 2010, 2012 and 2014. He also won the 2012 NL MVP.

Posey hinted during the playoffs he might be done, saying he was ready to embrace more family time with four young children at home.

In 2021, Posey batted .304 with 18 homers and 56 RBIs. If he does call it quits, Posey would be one of six players in the divisional era to hit .300 or better in his final MLB season.

Posey is a lifetime .302 hitter, making him one of six catchers in major league history to start 1,000 games at catcher and have a lifetime batting average of .300 or greater.

Posey was selected by the Giants fifth overall in the first round of the 2008 draft out of Florida State.
