TAMPA (SNN-TV) – Following their first preseason game, initial roster cuts, and injuries to key players like Cam Gill, the Buccaneers are bringing back a familiar face to the league’s top defense.

Carl Nassib is back with the BucsNassib, the free agent pass rusher who previously played in Tampa Bay in 2018 and 2019, has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Buccaneers.

While spending the last two years with the Raiders, Nassib became the first openly gay player to appear in a regular-season game. Since hitting free agent in March, there has been little apparent interest in him among NFL teams.

Nassib will have to compete with players who have spent all offseason on the Bucs to make the roster, but his experience in head coach Todd Bowles’ defense gives him a chance of contributing this season.

The Bucs also made moves to reach the 85-player roster limit ahead of today’s 4pm deadline. The team has released veteran DB Ross Cockrell, and waived TE Ben Beise, OL Curtis Blackwell, WR Kameron Brown, OLB JoJo Ozougwu, and OL Jonathan Hubbard.
