Sarasota – Nearly two weeks ago the video of 32-year-old Brendan Sheridan crashing a large carver yacht into other boats at marina jack went viral.

In the video SNN obtained you see Sheridan approaching at a high rate of speed the northeast side of Bayfront park. A relaxing quiet day at the park was quickly filled with park goers shouting at Sheridan to shut the boat down.

Kayla McLaughlin recorded the six-minute ordeal on her phone. She tells the Herald-Tribune “he turned around and went straight into the other boat then just kept going and hit he dock and turned it off….like it was nothing.”

According to the police report SNN obtained — the estimated cost of damage to the marina is around $50,000. We spoke to the captain of the yacht Sheridan was operating. He says the cost to repair the large vessel be will close to $50,000 to $75,000.

“Neither of us thought really thought that he would do something like that,” said Phil Costello.

Costello captains the Island Diva, the yacht Sheridan was operating. He says business for him was picking up since the pandemic hit the county. But Sheridan’s actions have now left him without a job.

In the arrest report Costello tells officers the owner of the yacht was out of town and Sheridan never had permission to operate it.

For now Costello must continue to travel outside the state to find employment while the island diva sits at marina jack waiting to be repaired in order to once again set sail in Sarasota bay.
