SARASOTA -The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast in Palm City, FL evacuated 43 dogs, cats and other furry critters to the Bishop Animal Shelter in Bradenton to weather out the storm.

Public Relations Coordinator at Bishop, Emily Bach, says when a hurricane threatens Florida animal shelters are there to help one another.

“We’re not an island so animal shelters, animal rescues, all sorts of animal welfare organizations need to work together when emergencies like this occur,” said Bach. “So it was really important that we were able to collaborate with them and help them out.”

Three cars full made the more than three hour drive to the Suncoast. Half of the animals that arrived to Bishop Animal Shelter will seek refuge at an animal shelter in Pasco County.
