A man’s body washes up along a Longboat Key shoreline on Christmas Eve

LONGBOAT KEY – A man’s body is found washed up along a Longboat Key shoreline. It’s not really what beach-goers expect to find on the beach, nonetheless on Christmas-Eve morning. 

Tractor driver, Angela Cupp, pulls the dead body from the water.

“I was coming down the beach and a woman flagged me down,” Angela Cupp said. “And there was a deceased person in the surf, so I pulled him out of the water.”

Longboat Key Club Resort Beach goers found a body along the surf around 10:30 Christmas Eve morning near 100 Sands Point Road.

“I was just working here at the resort and we had some guests come up and tell us that there was somebody floating in the water,” Adam Rugger said. “They assumed that they were dead.”

Tractor driver, Angela Cupp, stepped in to help, pulling the floating body from the water. She said he looked like he was exposed to the elements.

Longboat Key Police Patrol Captain, Chris Skinner, confirms the person is dead.

“We responded with EMS, and found the deceased male in the water,” Captain Chris Skinner, said. “He was brought to shore, prior to our arrival here. We have been able to identify which we can’t release at this time, and we’re conducting our investigation into this death.”

Longboat Key Club Resort Beach Attendant, Adam Rugger, calls this unusual.

“This is nothing I’ve seen before, especially over here,” Adam Rugger said.

Longboat Key Police is handling the investigation.
