BRADENTON – A Bradenton brewery shines a much-needed light on dogs in need of forever homes one beer can at a time.

Motorworks Brewing partnered with Shelter Manatee to help rescue dogs.

“So, we do a lot with animals already, and we just wanted to kick-off the year with a bang,” said Motorworks Brewing director of sales and marketing, Barry Elwonger. “And raise some funds, raise some awareness, and just do something good for a man’s best friend.”

Elwonger says it’s been a huge success since they kick–started the initiative on Sunday, January 19th.

“We’ve gotten numerous calls since the project’s been released,” said Elwonger. “And two of the were that were featured on the first four cans are already adopted. So, on Sunday at the extravaganza, Morton and King found their forever homes.”

Manatee County Animal Services say they were completely on board.

“We’re so happy to see their faces on these cans and also it tells the story of the dogs as well,” said Manatee County Animal Services Outreach and Event specialist, Hans Wohlgefahrt. “So, it’s really a great opportunity for us for people to learn about the pets and also to learn about Animal Services.”

The cans come in a four pack with details on each dog.

“The cans have all the dog’s information from the shelter,” said Elwonger. “So, it’s got their adoption number, a little story about the dog itself, and of course, a cute little picture of them.”

Of the featured dogs on the beer cans, Day Day and Candy are the two dogs left. But, they’re not the only dog in need.

“We get in anywhere from 15 to 20 animals every day of the year,” said Wohlgefahrt. “So, we’re dependent on people coming here to look at our pets and find a new family member.”

The proceeds go directly to Shelter Manatee to help Manatee County Animal Services build a new shelter.
