VENICE, Fla. (SNN TV) – Local authorities detained someone suspected of intentionally setting fires in the Venice area.
The Venice Police Department shared Sunday that someone set several fires at or near the beach parks from Venice Beach to Caspersen and Lake Venice Golf Club.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office assisted VPD, Nokomis Fire Department and the Sarasota County Fire Department to contain the brush fires.
At 8:15 p.m., VPD reported that all fires were out or under control. At 8:50 p.m., Venice Police reported that a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was in the air making final checks. They reported no new fires as of that update. SCSO said that one possible suspect is detained at this time.
