SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – All Faiths Food Bank Receives massive support from the Suncoast.
Nearly 15 organizations donated 225,000 dollars to support All Faith’s COVID-19 efforts.
The food bank held two mass distributions in May and has been providing family meal kits, along with produce in drive-thrus in Sarasota and DeSoto counties.
CEO, Sandra Frank, says the mass distributions reached about 8,000 to 10,000 people.
She says she’s very fortunate to have people who understand the need that’s come out of this COVID crisis.
“We were at a point when the crisis first erupted, where we didn’t how we would be able to meet this need,” Frank says. “We did not have the funding to make it possible. With that increase in demand, no one anticipated that level of need. And these funds are helping us literally purchase food, that’s how the gifts will be used.”
Frank says as we turn the corner from crisis mode, the donations will help prepare for a sustained long-term response. Because she understands unemployment will probably remain high as the economy takes its time to fully recover.
So the need for food will remain, but the food bank will continue to feed families on the Suncoast.
