SARASOTA – The GoFundMe page is on the uptick, surpassing $173 thousand dollars toward its $200 thousand dollar goal.

Yes, that is a lot of money.  It’s not all going to one person. If you split the goal 33 ways, that’s $6,060. That 33 split isn’t just a number. To Sarasota County Sheriff Office Deputy Mubarak, it’s his brothers, his sisters, his nieces and nephews in Kabul.

“His sister made a courageous decision to go sleep in the grass alongside the airport with their family for several days. They were turned away repeatedly by Taliban guards,” says Sheriff Hoffman.

Miraculously they were able to board a military relief flight out of Afghanistan with just the clothes on their backs. So to them, six thousand dollars is the hope and promise of a new life in the United States.  A hope that Sarasota County Sheriff Office Deputy Mubarak is highly invested in.

“It’s going to be big news to me and to them. Their safety is my priority. Specifically after the passing of my father, they have this hope in me to be able to help them,” says Deputy Mubarak.

Deputy Mubarak worked as an interpreter during dangerous times in Afghanistan, assisting multiple U.S. military branches. His work made him a target.

“The Taliban. Looks at you and says hmm you are the one,” says Deputy Mubarak.

In part due to his dedication to the United States, Deputy Mubarak  was granted citizenship for himself, wife and children. He has built a successful career and life on the Suncoast now, but his gentle and gracious nature is has touched so many it’s no surprise outpouring of support continues to swell.

“This is the kind of strong community that we have here that we’re not leaving anyone behind, and I just can’t wait to see them here and share my stories with them,” says Deputy Mubarak.

That why this month, Dep. Mubarak’s family is the recipient of a Helping Hand sponsored by Carl Reynolds Law.

“This American dream that you talk about it’s only possible because of the sacrifice and work from people like you. So, we’re happy to give back. Let’s get our community together and let’s keep contributing, I think 200 thousand dollars needs to be floor, we need to keep helping these folks. They’re going to need a lot to enjoy their version of the American dream because you made it possible, so thank you,” says Carl Reynolds.
