SARASOTA – A Sarasota veteran is travelling across the country to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention.

Kendra Simpkins, the Founder  of Operation Warrior Resolution, will embark on a 3,000 mile race across America from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Coast.

“The conditions are going to be rough, you are not going to get much sleep, there probably won’t be an area to get much sleep, you’ll be constantly on the go, you’ll only get to bring very little items, you will not be getting a shower, or consistent meals, and immediately I said yes, absolutely,” said Founder & CEO of Operation Warrior Resolution, Kendra Simpkins.

As a team member, Simpkins will be supporting 8 riders travelling 3,000 miles across the country, testing camaraderie, mental and physical toughness and the commitment to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention. A similar goal, the Sarasota non-profit has.

“I started operation warrior resolution to provide military service members, also their spouses and children with services I didn’t have when I was discharged in 2010, and we provide innovative holistic treatments to veterans and their family member,” said Simpkins

Now, OWR has an opportunity to change lives by joining the One Mile team, whose mission is help veterans, first responders and their families and those struggling from trauma. Overall, the purpose is teamwork.

“It’s really like a really big relay, it’s an awesome metaphor for challenge and team work because each of the riders are going to ride 113 ten minute segments so kind of nuts when you think about it to get all the way across the country,” said One Mile Volunteer, Sam Duncan.

“All the people that are on this team, are either elite athletes or high level military in some way, all of us are leaders in what we do, and were coming together despite the challenges that may come up, we can step up and get them done and make sure we can complete the race and hopefully win.”

You will be able to follow the progress of the One Mile team via Facebook over the next week.
