SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – You can ring in the holiday weekend with the annual American Powerboat Association Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix, and one local team looks to make their mark once again on the Suncoast.

Justice League Offshore Racing comprised of owner/driver Don Urfer, throttle-man Richard Davis and driver, throttle-man, and crew member Cory Shantry departed the sport’s Bracket 100 class and entered the Super Cat ranks this season with a Skater Powerboats 388 catamaran.

Urfer has been a player in offshore racing since 1986, racing his first time in Sarasota, and earned a Class One World Championship title driving Cigarette Justice League at the 2021 World Finals held in Key West. Davis, meanwhile, is a four-time world champion and was inducted into the APBA Hall of Champions in 2006.

The 2022 Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix takes place just off Lido Beach, and marks the events 37th Anniversary. The Justice League’s class of races begins Sunday at 10am.
