VENICE (SNN-TV) – Former Venice High and USF pitcher, Orion Kerkering heard his named called by the Philadelphia Phillies in last month’s MLB Draft, thus beginning his big-league journey.

Following being drafted Kerkering met the Phillies brass in the city of the Brotherly Love, before reporting to workouts in Clearwater at the Phillies minor-league complex.

Kerkering, having pitched in both the bullpen and as a starter, sees himself being an asset to Phillies farm, providing multiple looks.

With family and friends within two hours of the Clearwater, Kerkering is excited to begin his journey and realize the culmination of his efforts.

“All this hard work over these last 16 years, [in] reality these last 7 years, going through high school and college. Just building up to where I am now, has always been the dream. Now its the next however long, let’s say 3-4 years until I get to the big-leagues and hopefully its 15 more years after that.”

Kerkering will get right to work, as earlier today the Phillies announced that the Venice native has been place on the Phillies active roster in the Florida Complex League in Clearwater.
