VENICE (SNN-TV) – Over the weekend, the top-seeded Venice Indians volleyball found themselves one step away from a 7A State Championship game, with only Boca Raton standing in front of them.

First set, Summer Kohler receives the bump, only for senior Ashley Reynolds to set it back to Kohler, who finesses the hit into no-man’s land, Venice stoking the fire early at the Teepee.

Near the end of the first set, Kyla Freddolino on the serve, the Bobcats jostling and volleying the possession before Venice’s Brighton Ferguson bumps it to Reynolds, who sets it to Kohler, and the sophomore spikes it right down the sideline for the point, Venice would go on to take the 1st set, 25-12.

Match point of the 2nd set, Venice looking for the advantage, but the Bobcats libero digs it out, returning the volley to the Indians, where its Freddolino-to-Reynolds, and this go-round its senior Leah Bartlett with the match point kill, as Venice goes up 2-0 after the 25-20 set.

Final set now, match-point, Venice’s Jayda Lanham on the serve, with the student section rocking, and the Bobcats have troubles with it, and the ball falls as Venice take the dub 25-18, defeating Boca Raton in straight sets, advancing to the 7A state championship match for the first time in five years.

The finals will be played this Saturday, Nov. 12th at 7pm at Polk State College in Winter Haven, where the Indians will take on Oviedo’s Hagerty Huskies.
