SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – In a community filled with art, music, and culture, the world of pickleball has officially invaded Sarasota.

Dating back to 1965 the game of pickleball is a sports everyone can and wants to play, according to  Founder and Owner of the Sarasota Pickleball Organization, Terry Ryan. National Geographic reports that Pickleball is America’s Fastest growing sport

“It’s been around for years and I’ve been playing for 5 years. All of a sudden the country is finding out about it. It’s a great social sport and we’re Seniors and baby boomers don’t want to sit home, we want to do something athletic,” says Terry Ryan

Everyone from ages 8 to 85 simply show up, grab a paddle, and join in on the fun. Frances Bermudez is the Activation Program Manager for the Bay Park Conservancy and says sharing pickleball with the community is creating an opportunity for something that didn’t exist before.

“We hope that folks in the class will get to enjoy time and comradery here at the Bay Park, but also take a whole new set of skills,” says Bermudez

Classes are every Wednesday at 9AM. Whether you live here year round or not, pickleball makes for a great time.

“The people have been all fun, it’s been really terrific and I just think it’s so nice that the community has provided this. What a great feature for people that are coming to the Sarasota area,” says Judy Darling

A sports spanning generations is finally getting the attention and love it truly deserves. According to proponents, it’s only a matter of time before we see pickleball in the Olympics.
