NORTH PORT, Fla. (SNN TV) – North Port firefighters respond to a fire at North Port Rehabilitation on Sunday.
North Port Fire Rescue says firefighters discovered an extinguished fire in the bed of one of the patients when they arrived.
The patient, an adult man, experienced severe burn injuries. He was transported by air to a medical facility to be evaluated and to receive more treatment.
A second patient who was in the same room was evaluated. All other patients in the building are sheltered in place.
Firefighters are currently ventilating the structure, and the State Fire Marshal has been contacted. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. This a developing story. Check back for updates.
