SARASOTA COUNTY – Post-tropical storm Nestor caused severe weather all across the state of Florida. Several events planned for Saturday on the Suncoast were canceled or rescheduled.

Golfers waking up Saturday morning looking to play a round of Golf might’ve been disappointed to find Bobby Jones Gulf club closed for the day. City of Sarasota Parks & Rec officials say they intend to open the golf course on Sunday at 6:30 a.m.

Anna Maria islands annual Bayfest was moved indoors to the Center on 407 Magnolia Avenue to make the best of a bad situation. But due to space constraints not all scheduled craft vendors  will be present.

Venice City officials also chose to close the South Jetty Walkway for safety concerns of high winds and surf. Officials plan to reopen the walkway when conditions approve. Also in Venice the annual three day Sun Fiesta event hosted at Centennial Park canceled the parade and bed races. They have not been rescheduled.

In Sarasota the inaugural First Watch 5k was rescheduled for Sunday the 20th. The 5k will now take place alongside The First Watch Half Marathon, Relay, & 10k. Gates open at 5:30 am and the race is scheduled to start at 6:30 a.m. at the Van Wezel.

Lastly the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Sarasota-Manatee walk at Nathan Benderson Park has been postponed. The new day of the walk has yet to be determined.
