SARASOTA – A Suncoast elementary school welcomed a 94-year-old Holocaust survivor to share her story honoring Holocaust Education week.

“The best way to combat anti-Semitism is through holocaust education,” said Holocaust Education of the Jewish Federation, Bette Zaret.

Gulf gate elementary school heard from Holocaust Survivor, Ginette Hersh to share her story of courage, resilience and hope.

“I’m still alive to be able to speak to the children, and tell them my story I really feel that that’s the reason I am here,” said Holocaust survivor, Ginette Hersh.

“All sorts of information to celebrate world kindness day which is celebrated around the world on November 13th as well as the daffodil project that is meant to have as a goal to plant a million and a  half daffodils in commemoration and honor of the million and a half Jewish children who perished during the holocaust,” said Zaret.

18 schools across the Suncoast are planting the gardens this year, including Gulf gate elementary. Overall, Zaret says there is a lesson to teach

“We all need to be kind, and we need to be accepting and we need to truly standup and resist all forms of anti-Semitism and hatred,” said Zaret.

“There are two kinds of people, the givers and the takers, and giving is so wonderful, it feels so good when you give, it’s important,” said Hersh.
