LAKELAND (SNN-TV) – For the second time in two years, the Cardinal Mooney Lady Cougars found themselves in the 3A State Final. This time, Mooney squared off with a tough Westminster Academy squad, having won 17 straight since losing to Mooney back on New Year’s Eve. How’d things shake out? SNN’s got you covered.

Girls’ Class 3A State Final:

Westminster Academy 44, Cardinal Mooney 41

Cardinal Mooney Head Coach, Rico Antonio, spoke post-game about his girls’ effort.

“Extremely proud of them still. It’s not easy to get back here, and we got back here two years in a year. Clearly, its not the outcome we wanted either time. So, they’re pretty upset. All in all we had a very successful season and [I’m] extremely proud of those girls.”

Coach Antonio loses three seniors, Natalie Mercadante, Jasmine Scurry and Gianna Coluzzi, but will return key players like Jordyn Byrd, Kali Barrett, Kennedy McClain, and Olivia Davis for another post-season run next year.
